The other day I talked to someone ( Sorry, I forgot your irc nick ) on #psplua ( irc channel on irc.rizon.net ) He said how a super mario brothers clone with a level editor could be fun. I thought about it, and got to work.

Demos : Game & Watch Parachute ( Simulator )
Posted by yashamaru on 2008/4/25 18:35:54 (3927 reads)

hellviz has released his first game for the SONY PSP, Game & Watch Parachute. This is hellviz first try at programming and I for one can't wait to see whats next, Great job with this classic hellviz. Game&Watch Parachute, (Nintendo, Wide Screen) Simulator by hellviz is based on the delphi sourcecode and scans by Luca "MADrigal" Antignano and coded in c++ using OldSchool Library

The Game & Watch series were handheld games made by Nintendo and created by its game designer Gunpei Yokoi from 1980 to 1991. Most featured a single game that could be played on an LCD screen, in addition to a clock and an alarm. Most titles had a 'GAME A' and a 'GAME B' button. Game B is usually a faster, more difficult version of game A.

HOMEMISTER and PickDat have released an update to luaplayerHM. Now at version 5.0 LuaplayerHM adds functions with support for Adhoc connections. This is the must have LuaPlayer mod, since it runs on the 3.xx Kernel all PSP users even slim, ( running m33 custom firmware ) can enjoy Lua scripts.

What is LuaplayerHM? I can hear you asking, well it's a mod of the classic Luaplayer built by Shine for the 1.XX and 2.xx kernel ( classic PSP ). Luaplayer executes programs written in Lua, a very simple and easy to learn scripting language. One of the fastest ways to start programing on the Sony PSP.

Apps : Just got a Slim PSP, Vacation over
Posted by yashamaru on 2008/4/3 13:24:40 (1462 reads)

Well I'm back from my very long vacation away from the PSP scene. Many things have happen and lots of great homebrew app have been released. All of you that know me and this site know I don't post anything I don't or can't test. Since most of the new homebrew and hacks have been for the PSP slim, I had to go and buy a 4th PSP. Now I can test releases, so watch for updates.

I've got some requests to repack PSP Duck Hunt v0.4 so it will be playable on the slim ( 3.xx kernel ). Ive been working on it so look for a re-release next week.

Demos : PSPQ2 - Addon Pack v00
Posted by yashamaru on 2007/7/24 13:58:19 (1938 reads)

Well here it is the first of many pspq2-addon pack v00, This addon pack comes with 7 models and 5 jump maps. What are jump maps? Jump maps are maps built with many jumps and very little weapons if any. The point of most jump maps is to reach the end or the top. That sounds easy but some are very hard, and most very fun. Nothing wrong with little change from all the killing.

Open in new window
image taken from pc quake 2 - map and skins from addon pack

The wolf in the image above is me, playing on my PSP. The models in this pack are used by players that come to the server often. You don't need any of the /player/ files found in this pack to play any of the jump maps (or any maps). also not adding the /player/ files will save you 11.9mb, but they are fun and you can use them too.

Installing: Extract the PSPQ2 - Addon pack into your /quake2/ folder.

Note: IF you want to play a map running on my server and it's not been added to the pack yet or you don’t want the pack you can download the maps from quake2 on your PSP just make sure to turn on map downloading in the player setup. Only downside quake2 PSP has a bug that can't rename the downloaded maps you'll have to do it by hand or wait for an update to PSPQ2-Addon.

Demos : Quake 2 Multiplayer - Beta #3
Posted by yashamaru on 2007/7/23 13:10:00 (1645 reads)

Team emergencyexit has done it again, this time with the release of Quake 2 Multiplayer - Beta #3. This update now runs at 30-33fps thats about 2x faster then Beta #2's 14fps. Only downside to this release is no sounds. McZonk (of Team emergencyexit) said "I did not get the speed by removing the sound. The speed will not be lowered even if the sound is working again, the sound is calucalted completly. There is a bug in the sound engine at the moment so I stopped the output. That is all."

Open in new window
image taken from PC, wolf is me on my psp using a custom model.

Quote:

* FPS increase
The game runs with stable 30 to 60 frames per second. Even during the battle the rate rarely drops under 30. I changed a lot of stuff in the graphics code to get this drastic increase and there is still a lot of more potential. I also fixed some minor graphical bugs like nicer particles.
* New input methods
You can now configure the acceleration of the analog nub and the speed parameter also affects the looking when used with digital keys.
* Sky support
Instead of drawing some orange plane the sky is now drawn without clipping errors. The clipping for inline models is still not fixed.
* No sound
I am sorry for the inconvinice, but beta three has no audio output anymore. If you need sound use beta 2.

This release uses scaled down textures, as a result the graphics quality will be lower. but more levels and such should now load. also added was my dedicated Quake 2 server to the list of servers, no more having to add it in yourself (thx to McZonk for adding it).

Demos : Quake 2 Multiplayer - Second Beta
Posted by yashamaru on 2007/7/9 3:32:47 (1409 reads)

Team emergencyexit has released the Second Beta of Quake 2 Multiplayer port for the PSP. This is only for playing Quake2 in Multiplayer mode (Best mode anyways) online and local. To play online vs a friend you will need his or her IP and port or they will need yours. This is running so well people will run some good dedicated servers soon, If you'r going to run a server and want people to know tell Us in the Comments. This release comes with pak File Support, that means you can use the full version of quake2.

Open in new window

Quote:

.pak File Support

Quake 2 has a simple archive format called pak. I have added support for pak files. This will decrease the copy to memory stick rapidly. It also increases loading time a little bit. I have rewritten the memory management for those archive and they use much less memory. So it is acceptable to use them.
Sound

I have implemented sound in Quake 2 now. It is still very buggy and slow. Exspecially the sound during the id logo is pretty ugly because a lot of power is used for decoding the video data. But during the game it is very nice even if not all sound data is loaded so far.

Flipscreen support

You can set gu_flipscreen 1 in the console to turn around the psp viewing by ? (180°). So you can hold the psp upside down. I implemented this because I want to make Quake 2 as configurable as possible, but it is not in the menu because I think that not much players will use it and when you enable to it accidentally, it may be very confusing.

Servers

My Server is up and running, this small server can only host 8 people but it's running on a dedicated 500mhz. to add this server to your server list just edit your pspdefault.cfg file and add the server name to an open "set adr#" (# 1-9) example:

set adr1 "emergencyexit.game-host.org"
set adr2 "pspq2.no-ip.org"

If you have any questions you can ask them in the Comments, Have fun
